The Project
Our clients contacted ABM to provide an architectural design package to work with them to extend/modernise their home; the clients had contacted various architect companies but wanted a different approach, in fact, we have worked alongside a couple of the architects so we could vouch for their expertise.
They had every confidence that the Architects could supply great architectural drawings but being an engineer working on a large project, he wanted to work with a company that could design-Build and manage their home extension.
Once we achieved the statutory approvals (planning and building regulations), we supplied tender packages for the clients to put the contract to competitive tender (quotes from builders); we also provided a Fixed price quotation to build their extension.
Client Feedback
The feedback we got from the clients was that some builders would only do certain parts of the build; for instance, they did not supply and install the folding doors and would only form the opening, and others would not install under-floor heating or fit the kitchen.
ABM was not the most expensive or the cheapest, but because we could bring so much more to the table they awarded the contract to ABM.
What was achieved
The existing garage had to be demolished, making way for the proposed extension, which consisted of a rear elevation kitchen extension 3/4 of the full-width 4 meters deep that then wrapped around the side, forming a large utility/boot room along with a separate cloakroom/shower area, an office was sited to the front elevation.
Aluminium folding doors and a large roof light ensured natural light flowed throughout.
Canadian cedar cladding, along with traditional brickwork, provided a combination of traditional and modern architecture.
Underfloor heating, along with Karndean flooring, was laid throughout the entire ground floor.
