Rear & side elevation extension to a Victorian house in West Sussex

Their needs changed, and they wanted to extend outwards to the rear and side elevation to create a larger open-plan kitchen as well as a separate room that was to be used as an art studio that could be turned into a spare bedroom if required, the extension also included a large cloakroom that had a walk-in shower.

Because of the extension’s depth of 8 meters, planning permission was needed; the extension was not contentious and passed without objections.

The remit was to design and build a contemporary extension; that was sympathetic to the period whilst still delivering the needs of a modern family.

We achieved this by building in the traditional style with stock bricks to match the existing, along with large aluminium powder-coated doors and windows that enabled views of the garden along with a series of roof windows that encouraged light to flow throughout.

Underfloor heating was laid throughout the ground floor, and a flush handles J profile kitchen provided plenty of storage.

A large island provided a great central point, casual seating, and additional storage.
