The clients contacted ABM to help design, build, and manage this spacious single-storey rear elevation kitchen extension.
The Client Requirements
The dwelling was a tired 1930 Victorian home; the original kitchen had no relationship with the garden and lacked that natural sunlight, which is typical with this age building; the home was well-loved, but it just needed to be dragged into the 21st century.
The extension was the entire width of the house and 8 meters deep, which provided a vast space to enjoy.
The area was split into four zones: Kitchen, dining, and snug, which flowed perfectly, including a cleverly tucked away utility hidden behind tall built-in units.
Large folding doors and a High-level apex window provided a seamless relationship when fully opened; roof windows were also introduced along the roof span to enable natural light to flow freely.
Underfloor heating was laid, which freed up valuable wall space, along with a contemporary-style log burner that provided warmth and cosy, homely space.
