Check out this loft conversion in Horsham, West Sussex. A large double bedroom with a spacious en-suite; the stairs flowed freely from the existing first floor. A combination of roof lights/casement windows and the right pallet of decor filled the room with natural light.
Why move when you can extend upwards?
Our clients did not want to move, as their location was perfect for the short journey to work; the children were settled into their schools, but they longed for that larger master bedroom along with their own bathroom facility; we looked at various solutions from extending to the side, and rear elevations but they were all too costly, so we went on to concentrate on the loft.
Planning
The bulk of the conversion was to the rear elevation as well as to the side; under planning guidance, you can extend your loft space by 40m3 for a terrace house under permitted development, so we designed the alterations to fall with these guidelines; for further information on PD, click here.
We removed the existing hip and replaced it with a Gable that enabled the stairs to flow freely upwards and created a rear elevation dormer; combining both maximized the available space.
Brief summary of works
The loft consisted of a large double bedroom along with a spacious ensuite; the stairs flowed freely by entering into a single bedroom that, in turn, enabled the stairs to be open plan concept when you entered the loft space, a combination of roof lights and the right pallet of decor filled the roof with natural light.
Built-in storage was created under the eaves that enabled the floor to be free from clutter.
The conversion was a huge success; the large double bedroom provided that perfect ”MY ZONE, NO CHILDREN WELCOME SPACE.”
