En-suite shower or wet rooms are a great addition to any house

If you have always dreamed of your own bathroom retreat then an en-suite is the answer.

The wet room solution is a versatile solution, and works equally well for a family with young children or the less mobile.

When planning a wet room you need to consider the tanking (water proof membrane) as this is the first line of defence against water spillage. It is vital to get this right as mistakes can be costly if the work has to be re-done at a later date.

We always recommend installing a wet deck. It’s the same principle as a shower tray, but is hidden under the floor, and is slightly sloped to help the fall of the water.

Tiles

Tiles to walls and floors are the most popular choice of covering but it does come down to taste. You can have any material such as vinyl or rubber matting. Porous tiles such as limestone need to be very well sealed prior to installation.

Heating

It has to be under floor heating, which feels great under foot and also helps dry up any spillage. We would recommend that you back up the under floor heating with a radiator or heated towel rail to help dry the damp towels.

Shower screens

The true wet room does not need a screen, but we always recommend installing at least a .800 minimum glass panel to help reduce the splashes. The screen can be frame-less and can be custom made to fit.

Accessories

Wall hung sanitary ware gives the feeling of greater space, especially in smaller rooms. Other accessories should all be wall hung to avoid problems such as soggy loo roll!

A lower cost alternative to a full wet room, if budget is tight, would be to install a low level shower tray combined with a screen, which will give a similar effect for less cost.
